We were very excited to take part in the exhibition ‘Craft Front & Centre: Conversation Pieces’ at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York, which took place from June 1, 2024 to April 20, 2025. The show featured Sinkhole Vessels (Socavones), a collaboration by Liliana Ovalle + Cooperativa 1050°, that consists of a series of red clay pieces mounted in custom oak frames that feature a peculiar dark smoked effect resulting from experimenting with traditional firing techniques. Each of the red clay pieces was hand-crafted by Mujeres del Barro Rojo, a Zapotecan family of potters from San Marcos Tlapazola,
The exhibition brought together works from the museum’s permanent collection that explore collaborative approaches between craft, design, and art from the 20th century to the present. More information on the exhibition is available here.
